Skin Trade and back to work

I finished reading Skin Trade last night. I enjoyed it and I'll have to read it again once I read Blood Noir again because I don't remember everything that led up to this book. I was disappointed that Richard wasn't in the book at all though because the last book had him so much and left me wondering what was going to happen with him. Now I have to wait more. Darn.

And tonight I go back to work. I don't want to. I've enjoyed my stress free week off. And the day that I go back to work is the day that it was finally nice all day. So, I washed my car inside and out. I think I'm a little sunburned now too, but it hasn't been a vacation if I don't go back to work with a sunburn.

The real reason why the carmakers are failing

After my most recent experience with GMs warranty plan, I think I've figured out why the CEOs of the Big 3 are in Washington begging for money.

GM doesn't stand behind their car parts. I just had my car in to get the stereo replaced for the second time, which means that I'm on my 3rd stereo and my car is only 4 years old. And since I got the stereo replaced in 2006 and it started doing the same thing again a couple of weeks ago. So I take the car in to the service department and they tell me that it's going to cost $100 to get my stereo repaired, which is ridiculous because apparently even a stereo has a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. However, if they were producing quality parts that didn't need to be replaced constantly, then it'd be less of a problem. Hell, even if the individual dealership decided to waive the deductible it'd be happier. But, luckily I had enough rewards points that it only cost me $45 to have it replaced.

But then, the mechanic that was replacing my stereo forget to press eject before taking out the stereo. So when I got to pick up my car and pressed the CD button and the CD player was empty and I checked the case and that was empty as well. So, I said something, and surprise surprise, the CD is still stuck in the CD player and will now have to go to the refurbishing company, and I'll get it back in 1-2 weeks

Long Week

Well, I'm slowly feeling better but still in pain. I spent Thursday and half of Friday asleep thanks to some good drugs. It's getting better and I can actually sit down for more than 10 minutes at a time. And I get my car back on Monday since they called when I was tanked on drugs yesterday and unable to drive and the body shop isn't open today. Soon. Next week's gotta be better, after all, I'm on vacation.

A Murphy's Law kind of day

I had to give a lecture this morning, so naturally I woke up with a sore throat. I stopped at Starbucks on the way to the lecture and got a frappuccino with my free drink coupon and that helped numb my throat so that I could lecture on the exciting topic of urine.

I left the lecture, went to turn a corner and hit another car. I'm okay, just a little sore. Ok maybe more than a little. My car on the other hand is in some sad shape. Driver's side to driver's side accident. I was able to open my driver's door once to get out of the car, after that it was climb over the center console to get into the driver's seat. So I had it towed to the nearest Chevy dealership and am waiting for an estimate. The front end isn't pretty and I'm not sure what got damaged under the hood to make it start smoking after the accident. So I'm waiting for the phone call that will tell me how much the damage is.

I feel like I've been on the phone all day now. Had to talk to the insurance company locally. Had to find out which comes first, medical or car insurance. Stop and get checked out as I got more and more sore. Talk to the claims department. Get claim number. Call med express back with claim number so that my car insurance can be billed.

Someone make Murphy go away!
