Amanda and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

I woke up this morning and called the chiropractor's office. I went to my appointment and my back was out in 5 places. I came home and put on a pot of coffee and started doing the dishes. As I'm unloading the dishwasher, I realize that even though I ran it the other day, nothing was clean. So I strategically reload to fit more of the stuff that's in the sink, into the dishwasher when I find my favorite coffee cup that I put in the sink last night, has broken, the handle is laying next to it. Then I try to move my pedometer to my waistband instead of on my pocket, and lo and behold, the clip snaps off. Then the biggest oops of all, I'm cleaning my room and come across my mom's address book and I have no idea how this happened, because there was nothing liquid near it, but somehow 4 pages got soaked an the ink ran and we've lost 5 people's addresses.

Crap.

I'm gonna go take a nap now, maybe my luck will change.

Sunrise

I've seen a lot of sunrises working the night shift, but today's just struck me as especially beautiful. Everything was white and bare and the sky was pink lavender and blue. And as I was speeding up I-75 I saw 8 deer digging in a field for something to eat. It was just amazing and I felt at peace.

Ain't it the truth

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

Crummy

I need to apologize to anyone who realizes what a crappy mood that I've been in all week. I've got a lot of shit going on that I can't talk about here but it's damn near driving me insane. So please, just bear with me a bit

The Rumor Mill

Sometimes I really hate how the rumor mill at work knows more about my life than I do. Apparently right now I'm dating someone and I have no clue who that person is. But the best part is, the person that I have been seeing for 2 years heard the rumor and asked me who the other man was. Talk about a WTF moment. But luckily I got that all cleared up. Seriously though, all this rumor crap really has to stop.

Back to Good

Finally, I think that I'm starting to get over my cold. I probably shouldn't have put that into words because now it'll come back with a vengeance but who cares, I've already been sick for a week. It all started last Saturday while I was getting ready to go to the Palace to see Alanis Morissette and Matchbox 20. I'd had the tickets for months and was super excited. It was supposed to be me, Karen, Kelly and their coworker Shelly. Unfortunately at the last minute, Shelly got a stomach bug and there was no way that she was going anywhere. So Karen and Kelly called Age. Asked her what she was doing that night. She said nothing. They offered her a FREE concert ticket. She froze on the spot and couldn't even come up with a good excuse not to go with us. So they started mass calling people and no one could go. So they pick me up and on the way there, I thought of Jami at work who's a big concert goer and lives in Grand Blanc, so it'd be on the way to pick her up. I texted her and 2 minutes later she's calling me back and we're on the way to pick her up, so it all worked out.

So we got to the Palace around 5 and the concert was supposed to start at 6:30. We wandered around, bought t-shirts, talked, caught part of the soundcheck for "How far we've come" then at like 6:15 we tried to get to our seats and were told that they weren't seating yet.

How messed up is that? Here you have thousands of fans wandering around the exterior of the Palace which isn't exactly the safest thing. But finally, at like 6:29 they let everyone into their seats. Mutemath opened and for a band that I'd never heard of, they were really good. And the acrobatics that they performed, were just amazing. Flips over the keyboard, throwing around a drum. It was one of the more energetic live acts that I've seen. They only played about 4 songs though.

Then came Alanis. It'd been so long since I'd even heard one of her songs, but wow, she sounded exactly the same that she did when I was in high school. The whole crowd was singing along with her and it just brought back memories of being younger and singing along with her at home and singing "Ironic" on girl scout camping trips. Unfortunately at this point of the day though, the annoying "little" sinus headache that I'd had earlier in the day turned into a full fledged raging mess of congestion and the feeling of a sledgehammer drilling in my head. Tres fun. But I was determined to survive. I was just wishing that the 12 hour sudafed that I'd taken earlier in the day would have actually worked.

Matchbox 20. What more can I say? Rob Thomas is HOT. They started out on a high note with "How far we've come" and the energy of the show never ended. We were on the floor about 20 rows back and they were pretty good tickets, though I would have preferred to be off to the side and a couple rows up to see better, you're there listening to a live concert and it doesn't get much better than that. Except for the idiot in the sound booth that was burning incense. Him, I coulda killed because I was having enough problems breathing as it was.

After they finished playing, we made a mad rush to get our USB wristbands. They've got this cool souvenir that for $35 you get a "Matchbox 20" wristband with a USB stick in it. On the USB stick is the audio from that night's concert. And it was 2 hours full of music. It's so awesome because now that I'm starting to feel better, I can enjoy everything that I couldn't enjoy with my pounding head.

As we headed home, I promised Karen and Kelly that I'd stay awake long enough to get them out of Grand Blanc and back on I-475, but after that I was making no promises because I felt like absolute shit. But I managed to stay awake the entire way home, so that was good.

Sunday came and I felt like more shit than I had the night before. But I got up and got ready for church. It was while we were in church that I realized that I had a fever. After church we came home and I took my temp and sure enough, I had a fever. Run to Target to get some good drugs, which I then took and crawled into bed. And there I stayed until 7pm. There was some football game on that I caught and managed to stay up a bit longer after that then crawled back into bed.

And during the course of all this, I had no car because mine was at the dealership so that a fluid leak and blown fuse could be dealt with. So on Monday dad had to take me to the doctor because I still had a fever and could barely breathe. It was pronounced viral in origin but I was given antibiotics to wait a few days and get filled if need be. And I wasn't allowed back to work until the fever broke.

I called in and am told by the second shift coordinator that she wasn't going to talk to me if I was calling in and I told her too bad that I was. Then we talked briefly about how everyone on nights is sick right now. After that I collapsed and slept some more. It was fun.

Tuesday came and I was feeling slighty better so I went to work. Which was good because 2 other people had called in. I barely survived the shift and came home exhausted but unable to sleep. Joy.

But that turned out ok, because Wednesday because SNOW SLAM '08. We got nailed. Snow was falling an inch an hour and roads in my county were declared impassable at 7:30pm. So at 8:30 I called work and told them that I would try to make it to work, but I was unsure if it was going to happen.

It so didn't happen. April and I tried to ride into work together and as we were crawling down the road and realized that we were going to be late they came across the radio and said that Saginaw 911 had declared Saginaw impassable and that the State Police were shutting down I-75 at Wilder Rd. That was our exit.

No work for us. We pulled into a parking lot and called work again and were told that they understood and had already found people willing to work for us, so it all worked out.

We got just a bit of snow

Yesterday everyone was home. Mom could get out of the driveway but couldn't get her car off the road. Dad naturally had a snow day and I was home from being unable to work the night before. I ended up giving in to my cold and going and getting my antibiotics filled. Behold the power of amoxicillin! I'm starting to be able to breathe again!

The best part of yesterday though was watching the plow get stuck. I was walking by the dining room window and saw that we were finally getting plowed (and they'd sent the right size plow down our road) when they were pushing the snow from the road into our yard and got stuck. It was hilarious. Serves 'em right for all the times that they don't bring the right plow then leave it all piled in the middle of the circle to drive over. I ran to get my camera, but by the time I got it out and back to the window, the plow was unstuck, but I took pictures anyways.

And now, things are finally getting back to good.
