Bleach time

So it was one of the last nice days of the year today. I live in Michigan, I know that 80* days don't happen mid-September that often. So after doing some weeding in the garden, I decided that I was going to clean off the tables on the porch which are white metal tables. They didn't look so white though and I really didn't want to sit at them and study there as nasty as they looked.

Half a role of paper towels and some clorox bleach spray later, the tables are actually white again. Whatever was growing on them was scrubbed off and you can tell that I have to paint them again.

It's honestly time to buy some new tables that won't get as nasty.

Kitchen Disaster

Well apparently it's a week for kitchen disasters since I just about burned my kitchen down a half hour ago.

I was 3/4 awake and wanted breakfast, but since I've started dieting this week I have to actually take the time to cook instead of just going for a bowl of cereal, so I was making myself a frittata with ham and sharp cheddar cheese. All was going well, I'd gotten to the point where I was putting it under the broiler to brown it and melt the cheese. I pulled the pan out of the oven, put my frittata on a plate, put the pan in the sink, and put the mitt away on top of the other mitts and hot pads behind the coffee pot next to a loaf of bread. I put my plate on the table and went to get a fork when I realized that there were flames shooting up behind the coffee pot.

Apparently I had somehow touched the oven mitt to something that caused it to ignite. The terrible smell that I was smelling was the oven mitt smoldering and catching fire. I grabbed the mitt and started beating it against the stove to put out the fire, while my dad is telling me to put it in the sink and run some water on it. Which I eventually did. Soot was all over the stove from my beating and then in the pan in the sink from me rinsing the glove off to stop the fire.

The kitchen smells great right now. Dad told me to wake up fully next time before I start cooking
