The thoughts of an average American who is effing sick of the election

Title of this post should say it all.

There is more to the world than politics. Than Liberals v Conservatives. Though the extremists would have us think that the fate of the Universe depends on their party being in power.

It sickens me.

I'm sick of it.

I don't want to hear about it anymore.

I just want to teleport through time and have tomorrow be over.

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of the negativity. I'm sick of every other commercial on TV being a negative campaign ad telling you how awful the other candidate is and how they're going to ruin the world. That's not what I want to hear. Tell me what you are going to do, tell me how you're going to make things better, tell me about YOU. Don't tell me how 10 years ago a guy that you didn't know did something that offends you now because you think that it will make people vote for you. Don't tell me how he or she is bad for me. Tell me how you are good for me. Tell me how you're going to help me. Didn't your mama ever teach you that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? The people who are getting my votes are the ones that have run the fewest attack ads.

But, while thinking about this, what is up with the amount of money being spent on this election? Seriously. It's enough to fund a small country. Or seriously cut out national debt. The money could be spent so much better than on attack ads and I know that I'm not the only one sick of all this election mess and the amount of money being wasted to tell the population how much the other guy sucks.

I can't wait until tomorrow is over.

Too bad the mess will start again in a year with the primaries again.

God help us all.

Election Time

Thank God that in 26 hours the election will be over. At least in Michigan. I am so sick of the phone calls, the TV and radio ads, today it was the plastic sleeve over the newspaper. The signs can all go away too, they're ugly.

Tomorrow I'll cast my vote and I'll vote for Barack Obama. The thought of John McCain as president scares the crap out of me. He changes his rhetoric based on which group he's talking to for the day and I am not his friend, even though he seems to think that everyone is. His campaign has been spamming my email inbox for over a year now, and that annoys me as well.

The whole election system is messed up any ways. The amount of money it takes to become Presiden is absurd. Over a trillion dollars spent on this election? I've got an idea, let's cut campaigning down to two months, September and October. There is no other job, than as a Congressman that you can leave your position for 2 years to campaign for President, and then, when you lose, you can go back to your job as if you haven't been missing for two years. I would respect someone a lot more when they run for President while doing their job at the same time. And if campaigning was cut down to two months or something instead of 2 years, there wouldn't be quite so much money involved. And let's run a positive campaign as well, let's quit all the mudslinging. No one wants to hear all the slandar and lies. I'm tired of the election system the way it is, it's time to change it from the expensive mudslinging type of campaign and give people what they want. Everyone around me says the same thing "I'm sick of this and ready for the election to be over."

I'll also be defying my religious leaders and voting yes on Proposal 2 which allows for embryonic stem cell research. I will be voting yes on that because I think that it will have a greater good for medicine. I think that it will do more good by using these embryos that are leftovers from fertility treatments instead of incinerating them. In my opinion incineratinng those embryos is actually killing instead of using them to further a life.

Enough on my soapbox for now though.

Election Insanity

Do you want to know the easiest way to get me to NOT vote for you? Ambush me at the precinct the minute I pull into a parking spot. We went to vote at like 7:30 and the parking lot still looked like the picket line for a strike with people campaigning. As soon as we opened the doors to the car and stepped out, there were all these people on us, and we just about had to fight our way to get in to vote. Instant turnoff, being ambushed like that.

One of the election workers was a coach from my high school swim team and she said that it was like that all day, and they even had to make marks on the parking lot to show them the lines that they had to stay behind.

Some days, it really makes me wish that there was a "none of the above" option.
